Latest Update................. 17th March 2008................Latest Update

BAG PACK - to raise funds towards a poolside PA system and associated swimming equipment, we are holding a "bag pack at Asda (Hessle Rd) on 17th May from 10am until 3pm. VOLUNTEERS are needed to man the tills across this period and we are looking for enough to be able to minimise the time for each stint. The minimum age is 8 years old and we will need some parents to get involved and help as well. Please look out for the sheet on the notice board on poolside and get yoiur names down.

DONT FORGET TO CHECK THE BOOK FOR FORTHCOMING SWIMMING COMPETITIONS

CLUB CAPTAINS At the recent AGM the new Club Captains were voted in. Amy Hicks is the new girls Captain with Ryan Krebs being the Captain for the boys. Cogratulations to them and we wish them the best of luck for the coming year. Our thanks also go to the previous Captains Hannah Routledge and Matty Pye for their support throughout last year.

FONE-AID -  Keep your old phones coming. We have now sent off our second batch of phones and will recieve further funds towards new equipment for the club. Thanks to everyone who has contributed.

Club swimwear is now available to order.  See new page  "Club Sportswear"  for details and discount offers.

EQUIPMENT......new swimmers may not be aware of the equipment that is needed in order to progress with their training. There are obviously many specialist aids which can be used for training purposes however the following items are considered as the minimum requirement.

Swimming Fins............Kick Board / Float.............Pull Buoy

These items can be bought on line from Swim Shop at a reasonable cost and by following our link on the "links" page.

Adelle Adlard and Hannah Routledge have recently passed their Level 1 Teaching qualification and will be helping out at both the junior development and senior coaching sessions. Well done to you both.

Ann Ferguson has taken on the role of trials co-ordinator

Thanks to everyone who attended the first club gala of the year. The day was littered with withdrawals due to it also being "mothers day" and thanks certainly go to all the mothers who turned up to support.

The new training regeime seems to paying dividends as there where a many PBs acheveived throughout the gala. In addition Paul Callis broke two long standing club records in the Open category acheiving 1.09.66 for 100m Breatstroke and 1.28.42 for the 4 x 1 medley. Congratulations to all.

Thanks also go to all the helpers without whom the galas cannot proceed. If you enjoyed it, spread the word - get others involved as well.

Please remember it is a condition of the Club that you take part in at least 3 of the 5 galas we hold.

CHECK OUT the "club galas" page for details of the events for this gala.

ALL swimmers are encouraged to enter their age group swims (even if it is not the "favourite" stroke) and in some cases have the option to enter the age group above. It is a requirement of the swimming club that swimmers compete in at least 3 out of the 5 club galas each year (preferably all 5). Galas are an integral part of the training process giving swimmers experience of competition. Getting used to the start, starting blocks, finishing correctly and developing race tactics are an essential step to competing away from the club and it also gives the Coaches the chance to identify elements of your swims which need further work.

Gala competition also allows the club to gauge progress and record personal times which is essential when assessing teams and possible entries into other events away from Hunsley.

Please remember........taking part is the first step towards winning it.

Medals will be awarded at the end of each gala however after the presentations, winners will be asked to leave their trophies so that we can have them all engraved at the same time. These will then be passed back at training.
